Magic the gathering questions?

My opponent cast Act Of Treason on my 1/1 creature, I have a whispersilk Cloak equipment on the battlefield. Can I respond to my opponent Act of Treason by activating the Cloak to my creature and make it have Shroud? IF yes, then what will happen after that? does my opponent spell just go to graveyard and doesnt work?
